Clam Dip

Clam dip is a condiment made of clams, cream cheese and different types of seasonings. It is a delicious accompaniment to foods such as chips or crackers, and adds zest and appeal to these snacks.

 

Clam Dip Preparation Overview

Ingredients: Ingredients suggested by one of the most common versions of clam dip recipe are minced clams, garlic, cream cheese, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, salt and pepper. Green or red onions are often used as additional ingredients.

Method of Preparation: To prepare the dip, garlic cloves are rubbed in a serving bowl, into which cream cheese is added and beaten well with a fork. All other ingredients are mixed into this along with some of the clam juice. The dip thus prepared, is refrigerated and served chilled.

 

Serving Suggestions

The dip may be served warm or chilled with assorted vegetables, chips or crackers. At times, it is served in a bread loaf which has been cut from the top and hollowed out at the center. The extra bread is broken into pieces and eaten with the clam dip along with chips.

 

Clam Dip Recipe Variations

Baked Clam Dip: The dip is made with clams, crushed crackers, onion, garlic, butter, garlic salt and clam juice as the cooking liquid. The ingredients are mixed together and baked in an ovenproof casserole till bubbling. It is served with crackers.

Bacon & Clam Dip: It is made with minced clams, chopped celery, chopped green pepper, chopped onion, browned and crumbled bacon, butter and pepper. All ingredients except butter are mixed in a baking dish, and then topped with melted butter. The mixture is then baked.

Clam Onion Dip: The dip is made with onion soup and dip mix, minced clams, sour cream, horseradish and lemon juice concentrate. The ingredients are mixed together and chilled before serving.

Clams and Lemon Garlic Dip: The dip is prepared by mixing together softened cream cheese, minced clams, Tabasco sauce, salt, pepper and lemon juice.

 

Nutritional Facts

Clam dip is a rich source of iron on account of the clams. It is also rich in phosphorus, zinc, potassium, manganese, copper and selenium. Clams are a good source of lean protein as well. Most of the seasoning ingredients contained in the dip are known to aid in digestion.
