Caramel Dip

Caramel dip is a dipping sauce basically made with brown sugar, milk, and vanilla as the essential ingredients, and is best served with apple wedges. However, at times, white sugar is also used as one of the ingredients of the dip. Caramel dips are very popular with children. These dips can be served either cold or warm and are a favorite items on summer picnic menus when children have them as accompaniments to fruits or ice creams.

 

Commonly Used Ingredients and Preparation Overview of Caramel Dips

There are a number of ways of preparing caramel dips, with brown sugar remaining the key ingredient in all the recipes. A basic recipe for caramel dip  the uses of brown sugar, butter, light corn syrup, condensed milk (sweetened), ground cinnamon, and vanilla.

 

The preparation process suggests boiling together corn syrup, milk, and brown sugar until the mixture gets thick, and then adding in cinnamon and vanilla, after turning off the heat.    

 

Caramel Dip Recipe Variations

The variations can be defined in terms of use of different ingredients or preparation methods. A few popular variations are discussed in the section below:

 

  • Caramel apple dip is one of the popular variations. It is a light milky caramel, which is served with apple wedges and enjoyed the most by kids. Cornstarch, brown sugar, and some milk are whisked together, and then combined with corn syrup and remaining milk. The mixture is cooked for a few minutes, and then combined with vanilla extract and butter. It is served with apple slices after it gets cool.

 

  • Another recipe variation suggests mixing together caramel ice cream topping and low-fat cream cheese, followed by addition of marshmallows. It is then placed in the microwave for a few seconds, stirred, and again warmed up in microwave for another few seconds. This caramel dip pairs well with any fruit, especially apples.

 

  • One of the recipe variations recommends the addition of chocolate to the dip, with this variety served best over ice creams.

 

  • Cream cheese can also be added to enhance the flavor and texture of the dip. Cream cheese is softened in microwave and then combined with vanilla, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. It is again placed in microwave for a minute and then served either cold or hot with strawberries or apples or both.

  • This dip can be either served cold or warm, along with apples.

 

  • It goes well along with bananas, pears, strawberries, pound cake, and sweet bread.

 

  • Wafer cookie crackers, brownies, and crispy bars are also nice accompaniments.  

 

  • The caramel dip can also be served by drizzling it over ice-cream.
