Macrobiotic Cancer Diet

Macrobiotic cancer diet is the diet that is specifically designed for cancer patients, more so specifically advised in case of lymphoma patients. This diet is also known as “yin-yang” diet as it is believed that all foods have two elementary and complimentary forces in it and this kind of diet balances these positive and negative extremes. This way, the weak body system of cancer patients, tends to get enough nutrition and at the same time flushes out all the toxins in the body, caused by the heavy medication and other treatments. This kind of “yin-yang” diet consists of at least 50-60% of whole grains and the remaining 40-50% comprises of vegetables, fruits, legumes, etc.

People suffering with cancer need to go through a tough routine of treatment which involves chemotherapy and radiation, which are high-powered treatments. But all these negativities can be controlled to great extent through a well-balanced diet. The foods that are part of this balanced diet are –

  • Whole grains such as bulgur, corn, brown rice, oats, buckwheat, wild rice, quinoa, spelt, etc. Foods such as pastas, breads, cereals are made with whole grains. These are rich in vitamins, minerals and most importantly fiber, which is important as cancer patients tend to suffer from indigestion and constipation.
  • Vegetables such as green collards, carrots, broccoli, etc., are suggested as part of this diet. They can be steamed, sautéed, made into soups and salads.
  • Legumes, pulses, beans, soy beans, etc., also play an important role in the macrobiotic cancer diet as they are rich sources of amino acids, which are crucial for cancer patients.
  • Fruits such as apples, citrus, bananas, cherries, etc., are also necessary. These are rich in essential minerals and vitamins and can be consumed in the form of salads, juices, etc.
