Bowel Cancer Diet
Bowel Cancer Diet is the diet which aids in curbing the severity of the disease and alleviate the complications associated with it. Researchers are of the opinion that 35% of the cases of bowel cancer and other forms of cancer can be corrected by making changes in the diet and lifestyle. Exactly which foods will help and which will not is still a major cause of debate amongst the researchers. By observing the food patterns of the healthy people and some of the bowel cancer patients researchers could zero in on what exactly an ideal bowel cancer diet should have and what should be avoided.
Bowel Cancer Diet: Foods To Eat
- Fiber: The scientists have given in to the conclusion that people who had lots of fiber had relatively lower risk of bowel cancer than the ones who don’t have it. There are two sets of explanations for why fiber can curb the bowel cancer. One explanation goes like fiber will help to clear the toxins in the bowel through motions. And according to the other set of explanation the fiber can aid in flushing out some kinds of bile acids which may cause cancer. Broccoli, raspberry, turnip greens, blackberries and strawberries are some of the fiber rich foods.
- Fruits and Vegetables: They are highly recommended because they are loaded with vitamins and other vital nutrients which aid the body in overcoming the cell damage. The studies suggest that the foods rich in folate lowered the risk of bowel cancer. Folate is a type of vitamin B found in greens. Fruits and vegetables also protect from cancer due to their high fiber content. The vegetables are loaded with flavonoids, tannins and phyto-oestrogens which were scientifically proved to lower the risk of bowel cancer. Wild berries, and greens were found to have very strong effect on inhibiting the markers leading to the bowel cancer.
- Fish: Studies by EPIC(European Study) proved that the people who ate fish atleast every alternate day lowered their risk of bowel cancer by one third as compared to the ones who had fish atleast once in a fortnight or once in a month. The scientists say that the fishes are loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids and polyunsaturated fats which aid in curbing the markers causing bowel cancer. A typical bowel cancer diet should be laid with different kinds of fatty fishes like salmon, trout, etc.
Bowel Cancer Diet: Restrictions
- Red Meat: Scientists observed that people who had red meat on every alternate day had higher chances of contracting the bowel cancer in comparison to their counterparts who had it just once a month. The meats like red meat are cooked at higher temperatures which may also contribute to formation of aromatic amines that can lead to cancer. So it is highly recommended to stay away from red meat as much as possible.
The Bowel cancer diet restrictions extend to saturated fats and alcohols too. So, extra care should be taken to stay away from them as much as possible.
