Crunchy Date Rounds
|Shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Granulated sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Brown sugar||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Enriched flour||1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs)|
|Broken california walnuts||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Chopped pitted dates||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugared cereal flakes||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
Thoroughly cream shortening and sugars.
Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
Sift together dry ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture, blending well.
Stir in nuts and dates.
Drop from teaspoon into crushed flakes, rolling to coat well.
Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cooky sheet.
Top with walnut halves, if desired.
Bake in moderate oven (375Â°) 12 to 15 minutes, or till top springs back when lightly touched.
Cool before removing from pan.
