Date Turnovers

Ingredients
  Soft margarine 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  All purpose flour 2 1⁄4 Cup (36 tbs)
  Salt 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Mace 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Buttermilk/Sour milk 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Rolled oats 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Date filling 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Directions

Beat the first 4 ingredients together; then stir in sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Add the oats, and chill until firm enough to roll.
Roll out on a floured board to 3/8-inch thickness, and cut into circles, 3 to 4 inches in diameter.
Dampen the edge of each round.
Dab center with date filling, and fold over.
Press edges together with a fork.
Prick the top with a fork.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 375°F. 10 minutes or until edges are light brown.
Makes 3 dozen.
