Date Orange Dessert
|Shortening||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Sifted enriched flour||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Buttermilk||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)|
|Grated orange peel||1 Tablespoon|
|Pitted dates||1 Cup (16 tbs), cut up|
|Orange juice||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Sugar||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Orange hard sauce||1 Cup (16 tbs) (1 Recipe)|
Stir shortening to soften; sift in the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, soda, and salt.
Add buttermilk, egg, and orange peel.
Beat till smooth, about 1 minute.
Spoon into 6 greased custard cups.
Bake in moderate oven (350°) 25 to 30 minutes.
Combine orange juice and 1/4 cup sugar.
Pour over hot puddings.
Let stand 15 minutes; then remove from cups.
Serve warm with Orange Hard Sauce.
