|Brown sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs) (Firmly Packed)|
|Sifted all purpose flour||1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs)|
|Baking soda||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Rolled oats||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Egg||1 , beaten|
|Recipes of date filling||4 Cup (64 tbs)|
Cream shortening and sugar well.
Sift flour, salt and baking soda together, and stir in.
Mix in rolled oats and egg.
Place 1/2 mixture in greased 13 X 9-inch cake pan or 2 8-inch-square pans, and pat down firmly.
Spread with filling.
Cover with remaining crumb mixture, and pat lightly.
Bake at 350F 35 minutes or until lightly browned.
Cool, cut in squares and remove from pan.
