|Firmly packed brown sugar||250 Milliliter (1 Cup)|
|All purpose flour||425 Milliliter (1 3/4 Cup)|
|Baking soda||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Rolled oats||375 Milliliter (1 1/2 Cup)|
|Egg||1 , beaten|
|Date filling||1 Tablespoon|
Cream butter and sugar well.
Sift flour, salt and baking soda together and stir in.
Mix in rolled oats and egg.
Place 1/2 mixture into two 8 inch square (2 L) pans, and pat down firmly.
Spread with filling.
Cover with remaining crumb mixture, and pat lightly.
Bake at 350F (180C) for 35 minutes or until lightly browned.
Cool, cut in squares and remove from pan.
