Mix first three ingredients in a 10 inch skillet.
Heat to boiling point.
Simmer, Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
Cream margarine and sugar.
Add egg and beat well.
Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Add vanilla and dates.
Drop pudding batter by tablespoonsful into hot sauce.
Cook at a low temperature 25 to 30 minutes. (In an electric skillet, cook at 220°F.)
