The day before the party, you can prepare the curry sauce and start marinating the chicken and shrimp; the pickled onions can also be prepared a day ahead of time.
On the day of the party,arrange all the condiments in their serving dishes and start the barbecue about 1 1/2 hours before serving.
While the chicken and shrimp are on the grill, reheat the curry sauce and cook the rice.
To make tropical fruit spritzers, let guests mix equal parts of dry white wine, sparkling mineral water, and a tropical fruit juice (such as guava, papaya, or passion fruit).
