Place paper liners in 8 custard cups.
Prepare cake mix according to package directions, reducing liquid by 1 tablespoon.
Pour mixture into lined custard cups.
Place 4 cupcakes at a time in the oven, spaced about 1 inch apart. (Eight is too many and will not bake properly.) Microwave, uncovered, on high for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes, rotating once.
Remove from oven and let stand; allow tops to dry out slightly.
Frost as desired.
