Place the mint leaves into a long mojito glass and squeeze the juice from a lime over it. You want around two ounces of lime juice, so it may not require all of the juice from a single lime. Story
Mojito is a traditional Cuban Drink which became popular in the USA during the late 1980s, and has recently seen a resurgence in popularity. A mojito is traditionally made of five ingredients: spearmint, rum, sugar (traditionally sugar cane juice), lime, and carbonated water. Its combination of sweetness and refreshing citrus and spearmint flavors are intended to mask the potent kick of the rum, and have made this clear cocktail a popular summer drink. To make a Mojito, juice from a lime is added to sugar and mint leaves in a tall glass. The mixture is then gently mashed repeatedly with a muddler. Crushed ice is then added, followed by rum and topped off with club soda. Its popularity is evidenced by its prominent role in recent Bacardi advertisements. After the daiquiri (another rum-based cocktail), the mojito was the second favorite drink of the writer Ernest Hemingway. The word mojito is derived from the diminutive of the word mojo.

Do you know Hemingway had 4 wives? He must be taking too much Cuban Mojito. I had the pleasure to visit his homeĀ at Key West , Florida. The man was very poetic, I guess another side benefit of Mojito. There are 100s of cat at his home turned museum. If you happen to go to this southmost part of US, make sure to visit Hemingway's home perhaps after taking some Mojito, who knows you have find a few extra partner.I wonder how will the combination of Tortialla and Mojito work?

Mojito has a very interesting story that dates back to the 18 century!. It was invented on the coast of Cuba, when Pirate Captain Francis Drake and his band of men were pondering whether or not to seize the Aztec gold stored in Havana's royal treasuries. However, before Captain Drake could set out on his attempt to capture the city, King Philip II was able to warn his governor in Cuba, leaving time for the city to prepare. As more pirate ships came towards Havana, Captain Drake suddenly sailed away after firing only a few minor shots, much to the amazement of the inhabitants. ok ok, you are thinking what this has to do with mojito ...patience ...:-) ..read on .... But as he sailed away from the richest port in the West Indies, the Captain did not leave without impacting generations and generations of the Cuban civilization. It was around this time that one of his subordinates, A certain Mr. Richard Drake, invented the cocktail known as the Draque, Drak or Drac, a concoction that he introduced to all the Spanish ports he was able to conquer and seize. Ah ! it was this Draque, that is now the modern uber hip Mojito served in nightclub after nightclub. Initially Mojito was created for medical purposes(imagine!), the Draque and the now Mojito was made by combining aquardiente (a crude form of rum), sugar or sugarcane juice, lime, and mint. On one occasion, during one of the most massive cholera epidemics ever, narrator Ramon de Paula describes: "Every day at 11, I consume a little Draque and I am doing very well." Now, wont I feel better too if I had a crispy mojito at 11 every morning. :-) good old days those buggers had !! Anyway, if you are wondering how the Draque became the Mojito.. Bacardi was founded by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso, and the crude rum was replaced by rum ...mojo means place a little spell ...and it came to be called as mojito !! Cheers!
