1. In a medium bowl, add in the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, pepper and salt. Mix all the ingredients.
2. Stir in the egg, buttermilk, olive oil, green onion, jalapeno and canola oil. Mix well.
3. In a pan, heat the canola oil at 350 degrees F. Drop the batter in small batches and fry until golden brown. Repeat the process with rest of the batter.
4. Serve Hash Puppies on bed of lettuce along with some dip.
