1. Remove husk and silk from the corn and spread generously with softened butter.
2. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and wrap each cob in double thickness of foil, or use heavy-duty foil. Twist the ends to seal.
3. Place on the grid of the barbecue over the hot coals and cook for about 20 minutes, turning frequently.
