How Hummus Is Made At Cedar's Hummus Plant
Made popular by the Mediterranean diet, hummus is a healthy spread alternative and quickly becoming a staple in many US diets. How do you make hummus?
Cedars Mediterranean Foods Factory Quality Supervisor Jonathan Bell says that the first step in making hummus is to clear the chick peas.
Soaking the chick peas in water makes them expand. Chick peas go from uncooked to soaked or expanded to cooked in a cooker.
Then it goes to hopper, where they are grind up. Many secret ingredients are added during many stages of each recipe. From there, it goes to mixer, pump, popper, and then Tetra Pak machine.
Now, Jonathan calls in pasteurizer room. A machine dispenses the hummus into separate containers. Finally hummus is sealed and runs over a belt. After that, it is distributed to grocery markets.
