Making sour cream with rennet gives you that extra punch of thickness or creaminess that you always felt your homemade cream lacked. Sour cream is made by fermenting the regular cream by lactic acid bacteria, which in turn sours and thickens the cream.

Sour Cream with rennet is a great condiment for many recipes

Using rennet tablets is one of the popular methods of making sour cream.

Ingredients:

To make sour cream with rennet, you need only a few basic ingredients. These are listed below:

Cream - 2 cups; Buttermilk – 2 tablespoons; Rennet: 1 tablet

Method:

Pour the cream in a bowl and add the buttermilk to it. Stir well so that it forms an even mixture.

Add 1 tablet of rennet to this mixture and cover the bowl. Adding the rennet tablet to the mixture accelerates the process of fermenting, thereby making your sour cream ready in just a few hours.

Place this bowl in a warm location (75 degrees Fahrenheit approximately) and leave the cream for 24 hours to set. Your sour cream is ready to use.

Sour cream is typically used in European and North American cuisines. A traditional topping for baked potatoes or an age-old base for delicious creamy salads, sour cream is a great condiment for many such mouthwatering recipes. You can use it for baking cakes, cookies, doughnuts, scones, etc., or as a delicious onion dip for nachos, burritos, crackers, potato chips, or even in main course dishes like beef stroganoff. The options are numerous and equally varied. The choice is all yours…just take your pick!!
