Red And Green Anise Cookies
|Active dry yeast||2 1⁄4 Teaspoon (1 Package)|
|Warm water||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|All purpose flour||5 Cup (80 tbs)|
|Butter||1 Cup (16 tbs) (At Room Temperature)|
|Vegetable shortening||1 Cup (16 tbs) (At Room Temperature)|
|Anise extract||4 Teaspoon|
|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Red color sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (For Decorating)|
|Green color sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (For Decorating)|
Dissolve yeast in water in a large bowl.
Add salt and about 1 cup flour; mix very well.
Add all other ingredients except the remaining flour and baking powder; mix thoroughly.
Add remaining flour and baking powder; mix well.
Make 6 or 8 balls; with the palm of your hand, make long, thin rolls (about the size of the ring finger) and cut them into squares.
Place pieces, leaving space between them, on a cookie sheet.
Make a cut on top of each.
Bake at 350Â°F about 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove from cookie sheet and coat with red and green sugar.
Cool on wire racks.
