Grape-Nuts Crunchies

Ingredients
  Sifted flour 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Baking powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon (Calumet)
  Soda 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Salt 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Butter/Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Firmly packed brown sugar 1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Vanilla 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Milk 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Raisins 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Grape nuts/Grape nuts flake 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
Directions

Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, soda, salt, and nutmeg, and sift again.
Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and cream thoroughly.
Add egg and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy.
Add flour, alternately with milk, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in raisins and cereal.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheet.
Bake in moderate oven (375°F.) for 10 to 12 minutes, or until done.
Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
Store in tightly covered container.
