Date-Nut Squares

Ingredients
  Dates 6 Ounce, chopped
  Sugar 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Brown sugar 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Flour 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs), sifted
  Oats 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Butter 1 Cup (16 tbs), melted
Directions

MAKING
1) In a saucepan, combine the dates, sugar, vanilla, and 3/4 cup water.
2) Cook till thickened, then cool.
3) Mix in the brown sugar, flour, oats, soda, and salt.
4) Stir in the butter and nuts.
5) In a 12 x 8 x 2-inch pan, add and press in half the brown sugar mix.
6) Add in the date filling.
7) Spread the remaining brown sugar mix over the filling.
8) Lightly press with your fingers.
9) Place in the oven at 350 degrees and bake for about 40 minutes.
10) Cool in the pan.

SERVING
11) Cut into squares and serve.
