|Baking soda||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Butter/Vegetable shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), softened to room temperature|
|Firmly packed light brown sugar||6 Tablespoon|
|Semisweet chocolate bits||6 Ounce (1 Package)|
|Coarsely chopped pecans||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
Preheat oven to 375° F.
Sift flour with baking soda and salt and set aside.
Cream butter, sugars, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg.
Mix in dry ingredients; stir in chocolate bits and pecans.
Drop by well-rounded 1/2 teaspoonfuls on lightly greased baking sheets, spacing cookies 2" apart.
Bake 10-12 minutes until lightly edged with brown.
Transfer immediately to wire racks to cool.
