Ingredients
  Sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Shortening 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)
  Egg 1
  All purpose flour 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Ground nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground cloves 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Dark molasses 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Buttermilk 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Seedless raisins 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Directions

Cream together sugar and shortening.
Beat in egg.
Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with molasses and buttermilk which have been mixed together.
Stir in raisins.
Drop by teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet.
Bake in preheated moderate oven (350°F.) for 8 to 10 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Cool on a rack.
