|Sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Water||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Molasses||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Unsifted all purpose flour||3 1⁄2 Cup (56 tbs)|
|Baking soda||1 Teaspoon|
|Ground ginger||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground cloves||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground allspice||1⁄4 Teaspoon|
|Seeded raisin||1 Tablespoon|
|Sugar||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
Combine water and molasses.
Sift flour with remaining ingredients except last 2.
Add alternately to first mixture with water and molasses, blending well after each addition.
Roll out a small amount of dough at a time to 1/8 to 1/4-inch thickness.
Cut with 3-inch cookie cutter.
Put on greased cookie sheets.
Top each cookie with a raisin and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in preheated moderate oven (350°F.) for 10 to 12 minutes.
