Best Shortbread Cookies
|Butter||1 Cup (16 tbs), softened|
|Sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Flour||2 1⁄4 Cup (36 tbs)|
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Cream together the butter and sugar, then add vanilla and blend until light and fluffy.
Stir in flour until well-mixed.
Place dough on a floured surface and knead until smooth (do not overwork).
Place dough in refrigerator until chilled.
Remove a small portion of dough at atime so the rest will remain chilled.
Roll the dough to 1/4" thickness and cut with cookie cutters.
Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cookies are light brown.
Remove cookies to a flat surface to cool.
Sprinkle cinnamon/sugar or colored sugars on top of cookies before baking, if desired.
