1. Start oven, set at Moderate, 350° F. Rub a cookie sheet lightly with margarine or shortening.
2. Melt the butter or margarine in a skillet; add the sugar and stir until it is dissolved. Remove from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
3. Add the egg and beat well. Add the nuts, coconut and cornflakes and mix thoroughly.
4. Shape the mixture into small mounds with a teaspoon and place well apart on the prepared baking sheet. Bake about 10 minutes, or until delicately browned.
