Chocolate Drops

Ingredients
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Granulated sugar 1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs)
  Eggs 2 Small, beaten
  Unsweetened chocolate square 3 Ounce, melted (3 Squares)
  Sifted cake flour 1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs)
  Baking soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Sour milk/Buttermilk 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Vanilla extract 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Blanched almonds/Walnut halves 44
Directions

Work the shortening with a spoon until fluffy and creamy.
Add the sugar gradually, while continuing to work with a spoon until light.
Add the eggs and melted chocolate, and mix well.
Add the sifted dry ingredients alternately with the sour milk combined with the vanilla.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased or oiled cookie sheets.
Place an almond or walnut half in the center of each cookie.
Bake in a moderate oven of 350°F for about 12 min.
