|Molasses||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugar||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Butter/Margarine / shortening||3 Tablespoon|
|Sifted flour||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Baking soda||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Powdered cloves||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Powdered cinnamon||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Powdered nutmeg||1⁄4 Teaspoon|
1. Heat the molasses to the boiling point. Remove from the heat. Add the sugar, butter, margarine or shortening and the milk; mix well and let cool.
2. Sift the flour, baking soda, salt and spices-together and add to the cooled molasses mixture; mix thoroughly. Cover the dough with waxed paper and let it chill in the refrigerator 1 hour or more.
3. When ready to bake, start oven, set at Moderate, 375° F. Rub cookie sheets with margarine or shortening.
4. Roll out dough 1/8-inch thick on a lightly floured board; cut in desired shapes. Place cookies on cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, until delicately browned.
