Ingredients
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Water 2 Tablespoon
  Enriched flour 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs), sifted
  Soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Cloves 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Chopped mixed candied fruits and peels 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Seedless raisins 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Dark Or Light)
  Broken california walnuts 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
Directions

Cream together shortening and brown sugar.
Add egg and water; beat well.
Sift together dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture.
Stir in fruits and peels, raisins, and nuts.
Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart on lightly greased cooky sheet.
Bake in moderate oven (375°) about 10 minutes.
Cool slightly before removing from pan.
