Spicy Molasses Cookies
|Molasses||1 Cup (16 tbs) (dark)|
|Shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Water||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|All purpose flour||4 Cup (64 tbs)|
|Salt||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground ginger||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Baking soda||1 Teaspoon|
|Ground cloves||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground nutmeg||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground allspice||1⁄4 Teaspoon|
Mix 1 cup sugar, the molasses, shortening and water.
Stir in remaining ingredients except sugar.
Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
Heat oven to 375°.
Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on well-floured cloth-covered surface.
Cut into 3-inch rounds; sprinkle with sugar.
Place about 1 1/2 inches -apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched.
Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet.
