Pecan Spice Cookies

Ingredients
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Half Butter Or Margarine)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Brown sugar 1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs) (Packed)
  Egg 1
  Flour 1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs) (Gold Medal)
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Ginger 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Cloves 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Chopped pecans 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Pecan halves 5 Dozen
Directions

Heat oven to 375° (quick mod.).
Mix shortening, sugar, and egg thoroughly.
Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting.
Blend dry ingredients; stir into shortening mixture.
Stir in chopped pecans.
Roll dough in 1" balls.
Place 2" apart on greased baking sheet.
Place a pecan half on top of each cooky, flattening slightly.
Bake 10 to 12 min.
For softer cookies, store in tight container with an apple slice.
