|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Firmly packed brown sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Soft shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Vanilla extract||1 Teaspoon|
|Oats||1 Cup (16 tbs), uncooked (Quick-Cooking Or Regular)|
|Powdered sugar frosting||1 Tablespoon|
|Semi-sweet chocolate morsels||1 Tablespoon (Use As Required)|
|Gumdrops||1 Tablespoon (Use As Required)|
|Cinnamon candies||1 Tablespoon (Use As Required)|
|Colored flaked coconut||1 Tablespoon (Use As Required)|
Combine first four ingredients.
Add brown sugar, shortening, egg, vanilla extract, and water.
Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes.
Stir in oats.
Shape into 24 balls; place on ungreased cookie sheets.
Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in flour.
Insert wooden skewers into each.
Bake at 350° for 11 to 12 minutes.
Remove from cookie sheets; cool.
Using Powdered Sugar Frosting, attach semisweet chocolate morsels for eyes, gumdrops for nose, cinnamon candies for mouth, and colored coconut for hair.
