|Shortening||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Brown sugar||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Dates||2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs), diced|
|Flour||3 1⁄2 Cup (56 tbs)|
|Coffee||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), cold|
|Nuts||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs), chopped|
Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and cream well.
Blend in eggs.
Dredge dates in 1/2 cup of the flour.
Add remaining flour, soda, salt and spices alternately with cold coffee.
Blend in floured dates and nuts.
Chill for an hour, then drop by teaspoon onto baking sheet.
Bake at 350° for 8 minutes.
