Chewy Chocolate Cookies

Ingredients
  Butter/Margarine 1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs), softened
  Sugar 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Vanilla 2 Teaspoon
  All purpose flour 2 Cup (32 tbs) (unsifted)
  Cocoa 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Chocolate chips 12 Ounce
Directions

Cream butter and sugar in large mixer bowl until light and fluffy.
Add eggs and vanilla; beat well.
Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; gradually blend into creamed mixture.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto un-greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350° for 8 to 9 minutes.
Do not overbake.
Cool until set, about 1 minute.
Remove from cookie sheet; cool completely on wire rack.

This recipe was interesting. They tasted really yummy, but they weren't... cookies. They were more like flat cakes, all fluffy and spongey! What on earth did I do wrong?!
