|Plain flour||4 Ounce (100 Gram)|
|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Soda bicarbonate||1 Teaspoon|
|Ground ginger||1 Teaspoon|
|Ground cinnamon||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Butter/Margarine||2 Ounce (50 Gram)|
|Caster sugar||2 Ounce (50 Gram)|
|Golden syrup||3 Tablespoon|
Lightly grease two baking trays.
Sift the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and spices into a bowl.
Rub in the butter or margarine until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar, then warm the syrup in a saucepan and stir it into the dry ingredients to give a stiff dough.
Divide the mixture into 20 and form each piece into a ball.
Place the biscuits well apart on the prepared baking trays.
Bake in a moderately hot oven (200 C, 400 F, gas 6) for 8-10 minutes, or until the fairings are golden brown.
Allow the biscuits to cool on the trays for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
