Wash, slice in half, and stone the plums.
Combine sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and fruit in a large saucepan.
Add enough water just to cover the fruit.
Cook slowly, covered, for 30 min., or until plums are tender but not soft.
Remove from heat, and discard cinnamon stick.
