Cocoa Brownies Quick Mix

Ingredients
  All purpose flour 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Sugar 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Cocoa 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Softened shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Not Melted)
  Eggs 2
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Nuts 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs), broken
  Sugar 2 Teaspoon
Directions

Sift flour, measure and resift twice with sugar, salt and cocoa.
Then sift a third time into the large mixer bowl.
Add softened shortening, unbeaten eggs, and vanilla.
Beat on medium speed (or beat with wooden spoon, 100 strokes per minute) for 3 minutes.
Add nuts during last few seconds of beating.
Turn into a greased pan, (7 x 11 x 1 1/2 inches) and spread out in an even layer.
Bake in a moderate oven (350° F.) for 20 to 25 minutes.
Do not underbake! Leave in pan, cool slightly on cake rack, then cut into squares or oblongs.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
Makes 15 to 18, depending on size.
