|Orange||1 , peeled, white portion removed|
|Cinnamon stick||8 Inch, broken|
|Cardamom pods||4 , opened|
|Sweet red wine||1500 Milliliter (2 bottles, 750-milliliter each)|
|Gin/Vodka /aquavit||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Raisins||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Honey||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Blanched whole almonds||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
For spice bag, tie orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom in cheesecloth.
In large saucepan or kettle combine wine, gin, vodka, or aquavit, raisins, honey and spice bag.
Heat to simmering; simmer 5 to 10 minutes.
Do not boil.
If desired, hold at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours to develop more flavor; reheat.
Remove spice bag.
Add almonds just before serving.
