Death By Chocolate

 

Death by Chocolate basically refers to the desserts which contain chocolate as the primary ingredient.  This term is used for a broad variety of desserts that are made with a huge amount of cocoa or dark chocolate. A specific dessert by this name is owned: by S & A Restaurant group in United States and F.T. Wood and Sons Limited in United Kingdom. It is believed that the term was first uttered by Erik Russel in 1984, while he was employed with Kaysens ( a dessert manufacturer operating from London) and on sampling a new chocolate based product he is believed to have exclaimed “ This one’ s death by chocolate”.

  • Chocolate mousse torte
  • Chocolate ganache tart
  • Melting chocolate puds
  • Chocolate melting puds
  • Dark brownies
  • A chocolate cake layered with chocolate mousse, ganache and fudge
  • A simple molten and flourless chocolate cake.

 

Certain ice cream flavors are also marketed as Death by Chocolate and are available in flavors like chocolate chunks, chocolate ice cream, chocolate fudge, and plain chocolate ice cream.

 

Death by Chocolate Recipe and Variants: Brief Introduction, Ingredients and Method of Preparation

  • Death by Chocolate Cake: This cake is served in most of the bakeries around UK and US by the same name and is prepared with lots of cocoa, dark chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate. The cake is made up of ingredients such as dark semisweet chocolate, sugar, butter, all –purpose flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, sour cream and vanilla extract. Again some heavy whipped cream and semisweet chocolate is used for frosting the cake. The cake is enjoyed by itself or it is teamed with a cup of coffee.

 

  • Dark Chocolate Cookies: These cookies are baked with lots of chocolates and are prepared with semi-sweet baking chocolate, butter, brown sugar, vanilla, eggs, walnuts and baking powder. These cookies are best served during the potluck parties.

 

  • Chocolate Melting Puds: These are moist chocolate brownies which contain silky chocolate sauce in their center. They are served hot or cold as per the taste preferences. These puds are prepared using ingredients like cocoa powder, self-raising flour, roughly chopped dark chocolate, ground almonds, milk, castor sugar, and egg. The chocolate sauce is cooked by combining cocoa powder and muscovado sugar.

 

  • Chocolate Cheesecake: This chocolate cheesecake has a solid biscuit base with pockets of chocolate filling and is topped with chocolate sauce. Graham cracker crumbs, cocoa and butter are used for making the biscuit base. Cheese cake filling is made from chopped semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, superfine sugar, cream cheese, eggs , yolks, sour cream, custard powder, and cocoa. The chocolate sauce can be prepared using heavy cream, dark corn syrup and bittersweet chocolate. The cheesecake is chilled and drenched with chocolate sauce before serving.

  • “Death by Chocolate”- is a famous cookbook by celebrity chef Marcel Desaulniers and he also wrote a series of books which reflected the theme.
