Chocolate Ring A Dings

Ingredients
  Flour 2 Cup (32 tbs) (unsifted)
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Chocolate 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), ground
  Sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Milk 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Shortening 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), melted
  Egg 1
Directions

In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Combine Ground Chocolate, sugar, milk, cooled shortening and egg; beat until smooth.
Add chocolate mixture to dry ingredients, stirring only until flour is moistened.
Place dough on board sprinkled with additional 1/4 cup flour; lightly knead 2-3 times until soft ball forms.
Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick.
Cut with floured doughnut cutter; let dry 10 minutes.
Deep pan fry in at least 3-inches oil at 375°F for 1 1/2 minutes on each side.
Drain on paper towels.
Roll in powdered sugar or spread tops with chocolate frosting, if desired.
