Cream shortening, sugar, and vanilla extract; beat in eggs and chocolate.
Combine dry ingredients; add alternately with milk to creamed mixture, blending well after each addition.
Stir in nuts.
Chill 2 to 3 hours.
Form into balls 1 inch in diameter.
Roll in powdered sugar.
Place on greased cookie sheets 2 to 3 inches apart.
Bake at 350 ° for about 20 minutes.
