Chocolate Peppermint Cookies

Ingredients
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Milk 3 Tablespoon
  Unsweetened chocolate square 2 Ounce, melted (2 Squares, 1 Ounce Each)
  Gold medal flour 1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs)
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Peppermint filling 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Directions

Mix shortening, sugar, and egg thoroughly.
Blend in milk and cooled chocolate.
Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting.
Blend flour, salt, and baking powder; stir in.
Mold in smooth roll about 2" in diameter.
Wrap in waxed paper; chill until firm, several hours or overnight.
Heat oven to 400°
With thin, sharp knife, slice dough about 1/8" thick.
Bake on lightly greased baking sheet 10 to 12 min.
Cool.
Place two cookies together with a generous amount of Filling.
