Hoisin Sauce

Hoisin sauce also spelled as Haixian Sauce is a soy-based dipping sauce widely used in Chinese dishes and stir-fry recipes. It is known as Chinese barbeque sauce as well. Hoisin sauce is also sometimes called Peking sauce; since it's used in cooking the common dish “Peking duck” Literal meaning of Hoisin is seafood.

 

Popular Ingredients of Hoisin Sauce: Dark in color, Hoisin sauce has a unique spicy flavor and is cooked with water, sugar, soybeans, white distilled vinegar, rice, salt, wheat flour, garlic, red chili peppers etc. Sometimes the sauce is made by using sweet potatoes.

 

Hoisin Sauce Usage: In Chinese cuisine Hoisin sauce is mainly used for flavoring. In Vietnam, the sauce is a popularly consumed as a condiment for meat dishes.
