Easy Chinese Almond Cookies

Ingredients
  Almond extract 1 Teaspoon
  Shortening 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Flour 4 Cup (64 tbs)
  Sugar 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Salt 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Whole blanched almonds 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
Directions

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Cream almond extract and shortening in mixer bowl until smooth.
Add flour gradually, mixing well after each addition.
Add sugar and salt; mix well.
Knead until paste is formed.
Shape dough into thick roll; cut into 1/2-inch slices.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Press almond into center of each cookie.
Bake for 30 minutes.
Remove to wire rack to cool.

These were absolutely horrible! It tasted like pie crust! They were also extremely greasy. I threw them in the trash. There is a wonderful recipe at about.com which calls for an egg, baking soda and baking powder and a lot less salt.
