Simple Roasted Chicken

|Vegetable cooking spray||1|
|Dried herbs||1 Teaspoon (Such As Basil, Oregano, Or Thyme)|
Preheat oven to 450°.
Remove the giblets and neck from chicken; discard.
Rinse chicken under cold water; pat dry.
Trim excess fat.
Place chicken, breast side up, on a broiler pan.
Insert meat thermometer into meaty part of thigh, making sure not to touch bone.
Coat chicken with cooking spray; sprinkle with herbs, salt, and pepper.
Bake at 450° for 30 minutes.
Reduce oven temperature to 400°; bake an additional 45 minutes or until thermometer registers 180°.
