Cherry Filled Squares

  Butter/Margarine 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Allspice 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Flour 2 Cup (32 tbs), sifted
  Chopped walnuts 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Cherry preserves 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Confectioner's sugar 4 Tablespoon

Lightly grease an 8 inch, square, heat resistant, non metallic baking dish.
Set aside.
Beat butter until light and fluffy.
Add sugar gradually.
Beat until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg and vanilla.
Stir in flour, allspice, nutmeg and walnuts.
Press 1/2 of mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Spread with cherry preserves.
Top with remaining dough.
Heat, uncovered, on roast for 10 minutes or until top looks dry.
Cool in pan and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
Cut into squares.
