Stuffed Cheese

Stuffed cheese dish basically refers to a dish which uses cheese as the main stuffing ingredient. There are several kinds of dishes which make use of cheese as the main form of stuffing, viz, pasta, quail, dates, and chicken breasts. Among all these dishes, chicken breasts are often stuffed with cheese stuffing made with one or more form of cheeses. Several kinds of cheeses, viz, cream cheese, blue cheese, goat cheese, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese etc can be used to prepare the stuffing for stuffed cheese based dishes. Various herbs, seasonings, and sauces are combined along with cheeses to prepare the stuffing for chicken, pasta, and several other dishes. Though stuffed cheese dishes primarily refer to dishes which make use of cheese stuffing mix, however, a Mexican variant suggests stuffing the cheese with ingredients like beans, green chilies, tomatoes, and hot sauce. This Mexican stuffed cheese is popularly served with tortilla chips.       

 

Popular Stuffed Cheese Recipe Variants

There are a number of recipe variations of stuffed cheese based dishes, explained in terms of use of distinct form of cheese, ingredients and preparation process. A few popular stuffed cheese recipes have been explained as under:

 

  • 4 cheese stuffed shells- The recipe for this stuffed cheese dish suggests using four different types of cheeses to prepare the cheese stuffing. Ricotta cheese, Parmigiano cheese, Asiago cheese, and mozzarella cheese are combined together along with parsley, and stuffed in partially cooked pasta shells. Thereafter, tomato based sauce, prepared by adding seasonings and tomatoes to a mix of onions and garlic, is poured in a casserole saucier and topped with cheese stuffed pasta shells. The dish is baked until the sauce becomes bubbly and the cheeses melt.

 

  • Bacon-wrapped quail stuffed with goat cheese- the quails (mid-sized birds without much meat) are seasoned and refrigerated after adding thyme, garlic, and oil. Thereafter, the quails are stuffed with rosemary and goat cheese, and secured loosely with a twine, before roasting them in oven.

 

  • Cheese stuffed burger- the recipe for cheese stuffed burger suggests mixing together chopped onions, tomato ketchup, salt, pepper, and mustard; combining the mixture with crumbled beef; and shaping the mix in the form of thin patties. Cheddar cheese is spread onto one patty and covered with another patty. The patties are pressed firmly so that the ends get sealed, and then grilled. These cheese stuffed burgers are served on buns with tomatoes and lettuce.     

 

  • Cream cheese stuffed chicken breast- split chicken cutlets are topped with cream cheese and chives before rolling them and securing them with toothpick and coating them with a mix of bread crumbs, oregano, garlic powder, and basil. The cheese stuffed chicken breasts are now baked after drizzling melted butter on top and sprinkling parmesan cheese.

 

  • Stuffed chicken breasts with three cheeses- the cheese stuffing used in this dish is prepared by combining three different types of cheeses, viz. Port salad cheese, goat cheese, and Gouda cheese, and placing the mix on chicken breasts, which are then rolled out, secured with toothpick, coated with flour, and then baked. These chicken breasts, stuffed with cheese, are often served after topping them with sauce made of shallots, tomatoes, basil, and wine.

 

  • Bacon wrapped dates stuffed with blue cheese- this is a crispy and easy to make stuffed cheese recipe, prepared by stuffing dates with blue cheese, wrapping them in bacon, and baking them until crisp. This stuffed cheese based dish can be served both hot and at room temperature, and can be prepared a couple of hours ahead before serving.

 

A Unique Stuffed Cheese Recipe Variant

  • Mexican stuffed cheese- this is a distinct type of stuffed cheese dish, the recipe for which suggests stuffing the cheese with numerous ingredients like beans, tomatoes, green chilies, oregano, garlic, hot sauce, and coriander. The cheese is hollowed out from the center and filled with prepared cheese stuffing, and served after placing it in the midst of corn tortillas. This stuffed cheese dish is served popularly with tortilla chips.
