  Onions 1
  Processed cheese 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Thin brown bread slices 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Thin white bread slices 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Parmesan cheese 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Gruyere cheese 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Stock 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Butter 1 Tablespoon
  Nutmeg To Taste

Line a well greased oven dish with the slices of buttered brown bread.
Place layer of sliced onions on base and cover with thin slices of gruyere cheese.
Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Then cover with slices of buttered white bread, layer of sliced onion covered with thin slices of processed cheese, season pepper and nutmeg.
Repeat these two layers, and make a hole through the centre of the layers into which enough hot stock to almost float the ingredients is poured.
Cover and bake for 2 hrs.
in slow oven.
Remove the lid and sprinkle with grated hard cheese.
Grill until slightly browned.
A satisfying dish for winter.
