Cheese Rusks Straws and Croutons
|Day old white bread slices/Day old brown bread slices||4 (1/2 Inch Thick)|
|Melted butter||1 Tablespoon|
|Cheddar cheese||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), grated|
Remove the crust and cut the bread into 'animal' shapes for the rusks; into 3-inch lengths for the straws; or 1/2-inch dice for the croutons.
Dip the bread shapes in melted butter, then toss in grated Cheddar cheese to coat thoroughly.
Place on a baking sheet and put in a moderately hot oven (400°F - Gas Mark 5) to crisp and brown, 15-20 minutes.
The rusks will appeal to children and may be served on a variety of occasions.
The straws and croutons can be served as a cocktail or party titbit.
