Old Fashioned Hot Cereal
|Water||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Pearl barley/Brown rice/bulgur/medium cracked wheat||1 Cup (16 tbs), rinsed|
|Raisins/Chopped dried apricots||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Spiced butter/Brown sugar/honey||1 Tablespoon|
|Half and half/Light cream/whipping cream/milk||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
In a 2- to 3-quart pan, bring water to a boil over high heat.
Add grain; return to a boil.
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until grain is tender to bite, about 40 minutes (about 15 minutes for bulgur).
About 10 minutes before grain is done, stir in raisins (if used).
