Baked Cheeseburger Casserole
|White bread slice||6 , toasted|
|Lean ground beef||1 Pound|
|Yellow onion||1 Small, peeled and chopped|
|Chopped celery||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Prepared yellow mustard||1 Tablespoon|
|Shredded sharp cheddar cheese||4 Ounce (1 Cup)|
|Milk||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Dry mustard||1⁄8 Teaspoon|
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spread the butter on both sides of the bread, cut the slices in half diagonally, and set aside.
2. Heat a heavy 9- or 10-inch skillet over moderate heat. Add the beef, onion, celery, prepared mustard, and 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, and cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the beef has browned—about 5 minutes.
3. In a buttered 9"x9"x2" baking dish, place alternate layers of toast, beef mixture, and cheese.
4. In a small bowl, beat the egg, then stir in the milk, dry mustard, and the remaining salt. Pour the mixture over the cheese, sprinkle with the paprika, and bake, uncovered, for 25 minutes.
